HP DesignJet 1050c

Setting Up Your HP DesignJet 1050c Plotter

The HP DesignJet 1050c is a powerful, professional-grade plotter designed for network use in engineering and graphics firms. The recommended setup involves physically assembling the unit, installing supplies, and connecting it to a local area network (LAN) for shared use.

1. Initial Printer Setup (For All Users)

Due to its size and complexity, careful physical setup is essential.

  1. Unbox and Assemble: The 1050c is a very large machine. Ensure two people are available to handle the plotter and its components. Assemble the stand and the media catch basket securely. Place the plotter unit onto the assembled stand.
  2. Install Printheads and Ink Cartridges: Open the clear window or access panel. The 1050c uses separate, large-capacity Ink Cartridges and replaceable Printheads for each of the four colors (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow).
    • Install Supplies: Insert the four ink cartridges into the supply slots, followed by the four printheads into their corresponding carriage slots. The plotter will likely run an automatic alignment sequence.
  3. Load Paper (Roll Media): Open the roll cover and load the paper roll onto the spindle. Insert the roll into the feed mechanism, ensuring the paper is pulled taut and aligned. The front panel will prompt you to confirm the media type.
  4. Connect Power: Plug the power cable into the back of the plotter and into a dedicated, reliable power outlet. Press the Power button on the front panel to turn the plotter on.
